No room at the inn
For a variety of reasons -- and thankfully it doesn't sound too acrimonious -- Matt Koalska is headed home. The Islanders are working to try to place him elsewhere. Combine the play-the-kids thing with Boguniecki's arrival, and there didn't appear to be a place for him here. More details in tomorrow's story.
Koalska and Caldwell in two days. Wow.
Boguniecki, BTW, skated today (in red pants, still) with Regier and Colliton.

This is getting really hard to explain to a not-quite-yet five year old. His two favorite guys just left town in two days. Only a few days after these guys were the opening night autograph guests.
Any predictions I made about our team being a major force are out the door. Not that Matt or Ryan made all the difference, just that some of these young kids are not good enough for a top AHL team and it might hurt us eventually.

This just depresses the heck out of me. Ryan and Matt were two of my favorites on the team and two of the greatest guys you could ever meet. What's next? Thanks for the update Mike.

They may be nice guys, but if two had to go, they hurt the team the least.

I don't really agree with that comment. I think that Caldwell is definitely a better Dman then Fata (and possibly Mitchell too). In the case of Koalska, he's clearly better then Pitton and Aquino. Koalska wins faceoffs, plays good defense, and showed some offensive ability last year. Today's move is all about the Islanders wanting to keep kids like Pitton and Aquino in Bridgeport.
